Determinants of Community Participation in Community-Based Tourism Development: Insights from Đồng Tháp Province, Vietnam

Abstract

The study examines the impact of broader Community-Based Tourism (CBT) development constructs, including economic, social, cultural, environmental, political, psychological, and self-efficacy factors, on community participation in Đồng Tháp Province, Vietnam. The study derives a conceptual framework that integrates self-efficacy with established CBT constructs. Data collected from 143 respondents were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings emphasized the positive impact of social, political, economic, cultural, environmental, and self-efficacy on community participation in Community-Based Tourism development. This study contributes theoretically by incorporating self-efficacy into the CBT development framework to explore community participation. The study provides actionable insights for policymakers and practitioners to design sustainable tourism strategies that support CBT development. The findings also highlight that barriers such as limited resources and a lack of training programs may negatively impact community participation in Community-Based Tourism
