Title: | Island tourism development for inclusive growth |
Author(s): | Huu Nghia Le |
Abstract: | Island tourism has always been one of the most popular kinds of tourism in the world. Yet, it is difficult to analyse the tourism growth on an island because it is a dynamic entity with distinctive characteristics. In recent years, island tourism development has dealt with problems like climate change, environmental degradation, economic downturns, cultural loss, and diseases like the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, tourism for inclusive growth is key to ensuring the destination can keep up with demand. The author chose the SLIQ concept because it was a new way of looking at an old problem and selected the Hai Tac islands as a case study and conducted in-depth interviews with five island people. The findings demonstrated that local authorities should govern the island as a living entity, needing a unique approach to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals. The chapter also affirms that sustainable economic growth, environmental protection, and human fairness should be the three goals of public policy when planning and managing inclusive tourism development on islands |
